Way Off Broadway
WAY OFF BROADWAY is the story of five friends who, frustrated by the abrupt juxtaposition of being successful artists on the university level to poor struggling artists in New York City, take a crash course in life as they explore the dynamic of conflict in friendship involving sex, love, failure and betrayal. Darrin Michaels, a skilled playwright plagued with writer's block and relationship troubles, battles his fear of failure by briefly selling out his dreams of the theater for money and security. When he decides to follow his heart, he discovers a love that he has overlooked until the moment he almost loses it forever. Jay Green, a talented musician and ladies man, hides himself in a life of homelessness, promiscuity, and self-denial in an effort to avoid making the wrong decision. While he fights against his passion to play guitar, he puts his heart on the line, only to find that maturity may be his link to happiness. Film buff Mickey Cancoon, and the quirky Ethan Willard opt for graduate school as Mickey struggles to mend his broken heart and Ethan searches for the nerve to play his hand at love. Finally, Rebecca Moscowitz is the magnetic force , whose strength holds the group together. She is an aspiring actress whose revolutionary spirit comes up against cattle calls, misogynist directors, and a love that she has buried for far too long. WAY OFF BROADWAY explores the relationships of these characters and the choices they make that threaten their friendships, sacrifice their dreams, and define their futures.
