Through Her Eyes
The PRINCIPAL sits at his desk when the secretary enters with a note reading "St. Julians to be integrated." That night, Rosalee tells her parents that she wants to attend the school. Otis Sr. believes that Rosalee will be happier at the black school, but after his wife may interject, he agrees, but only if Rosalee creates a presentation on why she should go. The next day, Rosalee sits with her parent presenting her proposal on why she should go to St. Julians. Otis Sr. agrees to let her go. Rosalee sits in the hallway reading as May discusses enrollment with the Principal. The Principal asks why she wants to attend St. Julians. Her responses are forceful, causing the Principal's demeanor to harden, but Rosalee appeals to the Principal's human side after seeing a picture of his daughter. The next day her brother is killed in a civil rights protest. After the funeral, her father tells her that she needs to go to St. Julian. The next day, Rosalee sits at a desk taking the Principal's test, with superimposed images of things she and her friends have to deal with every day. The following day, Rosalee walks towards St. Julians with arms full of books. Stopping at the base of the steps, she pulls out a class schedule.
