Thin
The statistics are shocking: eating disorders affect five million people in the U.S., and more than ten percent of those diagnosed with anorexia nervosa will die from the disease. In this documentary, acclaimed photographer Lauren Greenfield documents some of the faces behind these numbers as she goes inside the Renfrew Center in Coconut Creek, FL; a facility dedicated to helping women and girls overcome eating disorders. The result is a deeply affecting film about the struggles with eating and weight and the deeper issues that lie at the core of women who are, literally, dying to be thin. Through interviews, photographs and behind-the-scenes footage, this documentary reveals the stories of four women between the ages of 15 and 30 with different backgrounds who are joined by their common illness.
