Alvin York, a pacifist farmer from Tennessee, and Joseph Oklahombi, a Choctaw Native American, both fought bravely in WWI. York received the highest honors, while Oklahombi’s heroism went largely unrecognized. Without ever meeting, these two men become the symbol of courage that young American volunteers showed in WWI.
