The Man Who Came to Dinner
Available on Hulu, Sling TV
When the arrogant, rude and generally insufferable critic and lecturer Sheridan Whiteside breaks his leg, the lives of an Ohio couple--and everyone in their small town--will be turned upside down as they become long-term hosts, nurses and servants to The Man Who Came to Dinner. In one of the best screwball comedies ever, the temporary invalid, Sheridan Whiteside (Monty Woolley), his secretary, Maggie (Bette Davis), and his eccentric entourage, move in with the Stanleys (Grant Mitchell, Billie Burke). The demanding, meddling, blackmailing Whiteside quickly alienates his unwilling hosts, and when Maggie becomes romantically involved with local newspaper editor Bert Jefferson (Richard Travis), Whiteside even hires an actress to come between the two. But the rudeness, lying and blackmailing can only go on for so long before Whiteside gets his well-deserved comeuppance.
