For over 2,000 years, the women of Jeju Island off South Korea have survived by becoming Haenyos: female sea divers. Known for their independent spirit, iron will, and determination, the "Last Mermaids" represent a long history of the semi-matriarchal structure of Jeju society. This film follows these women as they dive deep into the ocean with only their leaded belts and sharp knives.
