Henri IV was the heir of Robert de Clermont, the last son of Louis IX. King of Navarre since 1572, he became King of France on August 2, 1589 upon the death of his distant cousin Henry III, who appointed him as his successor. He abjured Protestantism to be crowned in Chartres on February 27, 1594. Assassinated by François Ravaillac.
