The Great Masters Of Painting: Degas

The son of a banker, Edgar Degas grew up in a cultivated Parisian bourgeois milieu. During the first twenty years of his career, he experimented with all genres. He found his place in the great impressionist movement only because of the freedom to paint advocated by the group. He was never able to conform to this movement or to others, thus choosing his own artistic path.
