Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale gets a colorful, music-filled makeover in the whimsical HBO family special The Emperor's Newest Clothes, written and produced by Sheila Nevins and featuring the voices of Alan Alda, Jeff Daniels, Alison Pill, John Early and Tim Heidecker. Filled with bold animation, catchy musical numbers and valuable lessons, this enchanting twist on a beloved tale chronicles the story of a vain Emperor who lives in a great kingdom where he decides everything and everyone agrees with him (at least in his company!). The Emperor's blinding vanity makes him an easy target for two phony tailors, hired to make him a dazzling outfit for a holiday parade celebrating … the Emperor himself! Little does the self-absorbed monarch know that the weavers are swindlers, pretending to work while, in reality, making no clothes at all. Afraid to crack the Emperor's delicate, insecure shell, his entrusted ministers and the townspeople convince themselves that the new royal "outfit" is simply glorious. As the Emperor is carried through the streets of his kingdom, it takes a child to reveal the truth that no one else dares to admit.
