El Alamein to the Volga. Tanks had amply served Hitlers grand purpose to make a chilling and spectacular assertion of Germany's military might. They had never failed Hitler in Poland, Western Europe, Africa, and the Soviet Union. The comparatively few armored and mechanized units represented the only truly modern component of the German army and were the key to much of its extraordinary success.
