Singing Pictures
Available on Prime Video
The Patua (Chitrakar) communities of West Bengal have been painters and singers of stories depicted in scrolls. They tell stories of Muslim saints as well as Hindu deities, and offer devotion to saints at Muslim shrines. They used to wander from village to village, receiving food and coins for recital. Other media has eroded this practise. The Patuas are trying to adapt to changing conditions.
