Female mechanic Jess agrees to compete in a car restoration show in the hopes of applying the winning prize money toward saving her family’s automotive garage. As the only female competitor, Jess is surprised to find that one of the male contestants is Luke, the son of her father’s former business partner - and her old boyfriend. The show’s participants compete in a series of increasingly difficult challenges to showcase their personal style, working toward the climactic final round of repainting a classic car. Although Jess is clearly a restoration whiz, she is awkward in front of the camera and struggles to win over the judges. As the competition revs up, Jess and Luke’s personal rivalry is a big hit with the audience and producers alike. After a few misfires, they work through their former relationship and start to bond again over their love of classic cars. As they race to the finish line, an unexpected mix-up leads to a disastrous painting accident, threatening Jess’s chance of winning the contest. With Luke’s encouragement, she changes her original design to regain the lead. Jess’s victory prompts the network to offer her a TV show, which she happily accepts, with the condition that Luke is hired as the co-host.
