Monster Maker
As a talented puppeteer, creator of inventive characters and innovator in screen technologies, Jim Henson was intrigued with Nicholas Fisk’s novel, Monster Maker, about a boy’s obsession with a master of special effects. Emotional live-action dramas were a departure for Jim but reflect an interest in the genre that dated back to his television experiments of the 1960s. In addition, the centerpiece of this story is a massive animatronic dragon, the Ultragorgon, making it an ideal project for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop both in technical demands and subject.
