Michel Petrucciani - Live At The Village Vanguard
Available on Qello Concerts, Prime Video
French jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani, one of the most accomplished jazz pianists of his generation, was a primary exponent of sophisticated lyricism. During this 1984 set at The Village Vanguard in New York City, he performs a mix of jazz standards and originals, including “The Prayer” and “Beautiful, But Why?” He is accompanied by Palle Danielsson (bass), Eliot Zigmund (drums), and special guest Jim Hall (guitar). The Village Vanguard opened in 1935 and is still in business, making it the oldest operating jazz club in New York City today. It earned international renown in the 1950s as the place where jazz careers set off and where the genre’s legends recorded their landmark albums.
