L'amour fou
Fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent met businessman Pierre Bergé at Christian Dior’s funeral in 1957. What resulted was a relationship that would span five decades and one that would revolutionise the fashion world and indelibly change the way women dressed. After resigning his position as the head of the House of Dior, the precocious Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Bergé went on to found the House of Yves Saint Laurent in 1962. It was a label that soon became synonymous with style, elegance and innovation. As YSL trail blazed through the fashion world, Bergé acted as CEO of the company. Throughout their partnership, they were avid collectors of art, spending a large portion of their wealth amassing a collection that would rival the best galleries, featuring works by Picasso, Matisse and Brancusi to name just a few. Upon Laurent’s death in 2008 Bergé decided to sell the couple’s beloved collection. It is through this momentous auction, and using rare archival footage as well as interviews with those closest to him that the film beautifully depicts the incredible life of this fashion icon and the relationship between these two remarkable men.
