Joyeux Noel
Lea, a witty and intelligent copy editor, discovers the first half of an enthralling love story in the form of an old diary from France. Whisked away to a delightful French village, she’s tasked with tracking down the couple from the diary and finding the ending to their story. But her fantasy Christmas trip is soured when the boss insists she bring along reporter Mark, who’s used to more hard-hitting stories and scoffs at being relegated to what he calls a 'puff piece.' Lea and Mark’s differences become clear right away. Lisa is all enthusiasm and little expertise. And Mark knows how to handle any situation with a practiced charm, he just can’t be bothered to put his heart into it. With Christmas and their deadline approaching, Lea and Mark agree to put their differences aside and work together to finish the story. The two start investigating, spending time at the market and engaging in the local French Christmas traditions. They retrace the events from the diary that made the young couple fall in love: dancing, sipping mulled wine, joining carolers and even participating in the village’s Elf folklore. Mark can’t help but find Lia’s energy charming, and Lia learns that Mark’s measured demeanor can be an asset as he skillfully uncovers more information about their subjects. Their investigation takes a surprising twist when Mark discovers the second half of the diary. The couple they’ve been searching for? They broke up, torn apart by rival families. Mark can’t bring himself to shatter Lisa’s optimism, so he hides the discovery from Lia and tries to find another solution to give their editor. When Lea uncovers what Mark has been hiding from her, she’s forced to reevaluate her feelings about him. As the story falls apart and Lisa and Mark are called to return home, they must make a decision: head back to their old lives empty-handed, or take a chance on love and find their own happy ending.
