Johnny Eager

Johnny Eager (Robert Taylor) is just an ex-con trying to make an honest living as a taxi driver. At least that’s what he tells his parole officer. In reality, Johnny is a gangster who is just as adept at crime as he is at lying. Johnny’s latest endeavor is a closed racetrack that he’d like to reopen, but crusading District Attorney John Farrell (Edward Arnold) won’t allow it, so Johnny does what he does best and makes things happen. It’s easy to do since Farrell’s stepdaughter happens to be Lisbeth Bard (Lana Turner), a beautiful girl who keeps company with the wrong people. Johnny and Lisbeth share an attraction, but Johnny still wants that track and he’s not above blackmailing Farrell by putting Lisbeth in a compromised position to get what he wants. Now Johnny just has to keep from falling in love with her.
