Grover Washington - Live In Concert

American soul-jazz saxophonist Grover Washington Jr. probably never sounded more hypnotic and incendiary than during this incredible 1981 live performance at The Village Vanguard. With Richard Tee (keyboards), Ralph MacDonald (percussion), Paul Griffin (synthesizer), Eric Gale (guitar), Anthony Jackson (bass), and Steve Gadd (drums), Washington Jr. demonstrates why he, along with guitarists Wes Montgomery and George Benson, is seen as one of the founders of the smooth jazz genre. Washington Jr. treats his audience to his big hit “Just the Two of Us,” along with classics like “Let It Flow” and “On the Dark Side.” The Village Vanguard opened in 1935 and is still in business, making it the oldest operating jazz club in New York City today. It earned international renown in the 1950s as the place where jazz careers set off and where the genre’s legends recorded their landmark albums.
