Gabe
Adopted the day he was born into a St. Louis home, Gabe was diagnosed with Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy and told he would not live past 25. By the age of 10, he was wheelchair bound. By his mid teens, he required a full-time caretaker. Despite his grim diagnosis, Gabe accomplished his single biggest goal in life: getting a college degree. Then, doctors inform him that he has been misdiagnosed all along, and as such that he could live into his 50s. Though remarkable, Gabe has never planned a future for himself. Surrounded by a community of caregivers, friends, and family, he must come to terms with his new diagnosis. He makes new friends, road-trips around the country, shows off his virtuosic palette, and starts planning to open his own business. None of it is easy. The physical challenges of his disease are nearly matched by the emotional test of rethinking life itself. But Gabe handles it all with an inspiring combination of bravery, humor, and love.
