Fighting Aircraft of WWI: Albatros, Sopwith and Fokker
Airships and biplanes, originally intended as reconnaissance machines, ended up playing a large part in the war as fighting aircraft, although eventually specific aircraft were developed for fighting -- with Germany heading most of the research and development.
