The Kings and Queens we know now have almost no political power in modern society. But in Medieval Europe, the monarchs were seen as God’s representatives on Earth and wielded tyrannical power over their subjects. They brought with them dynasties that ruled for centuries and brought stability to their kingdoms. But it wasn’t easy. Rulers were often deposed, exiled or beheaded, paving the way for new dynasties to emerge and take control. This is the tale of how two of the biggest global powers came to be.
