When wealthy architect Don Bellows (Franchot Tone) believes he can reignite the career of fading theatrical luminary Joyce Heath (Davis) with the right stage vehicle, the star falls in love with her would-be savior. But Heath worries that she will destroy Bellows, as she has ruined every man who has ever loved her--including her dissolute husband (John Eldredge), who refuses to grant her a divorce despite her best efforts to drive him away ... and her, ultimately, unsuccessful attempt to kill him.
