Confessions of an Action Star
Available on Prime Video, Tubi TV, Plex
A 'mockumentary' on the rise and fall of (mythical) action star film star Frank Sledge, who in a series of hilarious film clip send-ups bears a suspicious resemblance to Sylvester Stallone, Keanu Reeves, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc. Traveling through bizarre acting classes, AA meetings, and archival footage of the (fake) films that made him a star, we follow the former exotic dancer turned box office phenom as he tries to re-ignite the magic his career once had. Sledge is played by stuntman Davie Leitch, who has performed in many of Hollywood's biggest movies, stunt-doubling for some of the best known real-life action starts (including Brad Pitt and Jean-Claude Van Damme), and the film is filled with high-production stunts and footwork. The takeoff on The Matrix alone is worth the price of this movie. "Confessions of An Action Star" is filled with celebrity "interviews" with real stars including Richard Lewis, Sean Young, Eric Roberts, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, Debbie Allen and a certain hugely famous pop-culture icon/film star/famous wife/mother and UN spokeswoman whose name cannot be directly mentioned but is very much a part of this film. In the style of Best In Show, but based on a much more accessible and popular subject matter, Confessions of an Action Star is a unique comedy that spoofs some of Hollywood's favorite films and actors.
