Coming to My Senses

Up until a near-fatal crash in 1999, Aaron Baker soared 40-feet in the air on a roaring motocross bike. Now all he wants to do is walk. Weaving through the film’s story of his recovery is the epic challenge he sets himself—to walk across Death Valley unsupported on foot. The day after the crash Aaron was declared clinically dead. Since then he’s reclaimed more than 70% mobility in all four limbs. How did he do it? Given his dire prognosis, that he had a one-in-a-million chance of feeding himself again, Aaron is a living wonder. Especially since, after only one year of physical therapy, his insurance timed out and he was left stranded and suicidal. It was upon meeting a professor and clinical exercise therapist, Taylor Isaacs, that Aaron discovered the simple truth: movement is medicine. Infusing hope, and retraining Aaron’s body, Aaron and Taylor started a socially conscious, low cost disability gym inclusive to all. Together they have helped over 600 people reclaim movement previously thought impossible. Aaron’s personal journey empathically engages us in the rollercoaster transformational process that all those conquering paralysis must undergo in order to reconnect to life, hope and to a wider community of others also struggling.
