Christmas on the Danube
With their Christmas markets filled with local crafts and food, and holiday lights and activities, a visit to the cities and towns along the Danube at Christmas is a magical experience. In Vienna, Christmas markets spring to life among the city’s grand buildings; in Budapest locals celebrate folk traditions; and music fills the air at the Christmas Markets in Mozart’s hometown of Salzburg. A visit to the town of Oberndorf details the history of the most famous of all Christmas songs “Silent Night. ” Other highlights include the baroque master Melk Abbey, the Old Town of Passau, and the charming Christmas Market of Bratislava.
