When Rome was still in its infancy, the Carthage civilization was the dominant power of the Mediterranean. As the Roman Empire grew in power and reach, the Punic Empire centered in Carthage remained its only great rival. In the year 146 BC, Roman armies laid siege at Carthage, located in what is now Tunisia, massacring its people and nearly wiping an entire civilization from the pages of history.
