An Evening With Hans van Manen
Hans van Manen celebrates his 85th Birthday with choreographies from his early, middle, and late creative period. Van Manen created well over 100 works between 1955 and 2014. These three pieces from key stages in his career show the breadth of his work. The first piece, Metaforen, created in 1965, is set to Daniel-Jean-Yves Lesur's Variations for Organ and Strings. It was one of the first dances featuring a male pas de deux and created a scandal at its première. The Second Piece, Adagio HammerKlavier, was created in 1973 with Olga Khoziainova playing the third movement of Beethoven´s Op. 106 on stage, and features three couples in various configurations. The Third Piece, Frank Bridge Variations, created in 2005, is set to Benjamin Britten’s piece of the same name which plays with balance and counterpoint.
