In 2018, the undersized team from St. Bernard's Central Catholic won a surprising high school Super Bowl. But when the Diocese of Worcester suddenly announced that due to financial problems it was closing the school, Bernardians faithful needed a miracle. So they set about creating one.Their goal was one that many failing Catholic school communities had imagined, but few had ever achieved: raising money and enrollment to go independent. Emboldened by their big-hearted football coach and their intrepid, young principal, a grassroots group struck a deal with Diocesan leaders for one more year to prove the school could survive on its own.
