A Tale of Egypt
Based on the story of Moses from the Bible. When Moses was born, the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt. The Pharaoh ordered that all Hebrew baby boys be killed at birth, so his mother hid him in a basket by the side of the River Nile. His sister Miriam watched over him until the Pharaoh's daughter came to the river to bath. She found Moses and adopted him. He was raised side by side with the Pharaoh's own son, Ramses. When Moses was older, he saw the suffering of the Hebrews and could not ignore it. He then found out that he was also Hebrew and he ran from the palace into the wilderness. There he met the beautiful Zipporah, whom he married. One day while herding sheep, God spoke to him from a burning bush and told him to go back and talk to Ramses to free the Hebrews from slavery. Ramses would not listen; he would not let the slaves go. Moses warned the Pharaoh that there would be ten plagues that would be sent by God until he let the people go. Finally, after Ramses own son was killed by the plagues, Ramses let the Hebrew slaves go. Moses led them through the parted waters of the Red Sea to the Promised Land. Moses' absolute faith in God helped him to free the slaves. He was not afraid because he felt that God was guiding him and giving him the power to do what had to be done to free the slaves from cruelty and death. Moses' compassion for others helped him to realize who he really was. A Tale of Egypt teaches children to have faith in a power greater than themselves.
