The Madrigal

S1 E6: This lecture focuses on the madrigal, the most important genre of Italian secular music of the late Renaissance. Examine the heightened poetic content of the madrigal and the Petrarchian revival. Then examine the role played by word-painting in the genre of the madrigal. Three madrigals are examined for the progressive development of the genre.
